The TEXPEX Service to Philately Award for 2008 was presented to William K. McDaniel of Angleton, Texas during the 70th year of his membership in the Texas Philatelic Association for a lifetime of service. He received a Waterford Crystal image in the shape of the State of Texas. TEXPEX Chairman Tom Koch presents the sixth annual award to McDaniel.

Grand Award

TEXPEX is an American Philatelic Society World Series of Philately Show. The multi-frame Grand Award exhibit represents TEXPEX in the Champion of Champions competition at the annual APS StampShow this year scheduled for Aug. 24-27 at Rosemont, Illinois..

Reserve Grand Award

TEXPEX keeps the tradition alive by awarding a crystal vase each year to the Reserve Grand winner.

Single Frame Award

TEXPEX has long recognized the value of single frame exhibits. The show has been fortunate to have received some outstanding one-frame exhibits including Jerome V.V. Kasper's "SCADTA Postal Stationery" in 2004 (platinum) and Harvey Mirsky's "Using America's First Issue to Prepay Domestic Letter Rates - 1847-1851" (gold) in 2002.

J.C.M. Cryer Cup

The best 19th Century U.S. or Confederate exhibit as determined by the judges is inscribed on the J.C.M. Cryer Cup that is permanently housed in the Wineburgh Philatelic Research Library at the University of Texas at Dallas. Plate awarded to the winner by the Port Lavaca Philatelic Society.

Texas Philatelic Association Medals and Ribbons

Gold, Vermeil, Silver, Silver-Bronze and Bronze award medals and ribbons are presented to qualifying World Series of Philately exhibits based on merit. Multi-frame exhibits are judged separately from one frame, youth and display class. One frame, youth and display class exhibits also earn show awards and contend for special recognition. These are awarded by the TEXPEX Committee and provided by the Texas Philatelic Association.

TEXPEX Service to Philately Award

Presented by the TEXPEX Chairman, this Crystal award is given to a person who has sacrificed and contributed unselfishly to the advancement of philately. The recipient is kept secret and announced at the awards banquet.

D.P. Spalding Memorial Award

The Texas Philatelic Association club or society that recruits the most members during the past year has its name inscribed on the D.P. Spalding trophy that is permanently housed in the Wineburgh Philatelic Research Library at the University of Texas at Dallas.



Other show awards include:

American Association. of Philatelic Exhibitors – Two AAPE pins for exhibits that do not win a Gold medal - one for outstanding presentation and another at the judges’ discretion for creativity.

American Philatelic Society – Medals of Excellence: pre-1900, 1900-40, post 1940 and post 1980. Clarity of presentation, originality and research must set it apart from the other exhibits. APS Research Medal for best Original Research, or Secondary Research.

Bureau Issues Association – Statue of Freedom Award to the best exhibit of U.S./Confederate stamps (1847-present) receiving a Vermeil or better medal.

Dr. William H.P. Emery Award – Pre-1900, 1900-1940 and post-1940 special awards presented by the Texas Postal History Society for Texas postal history exhibits as judged by the attending Distinguished Philatelic Texans.

Texas Philatelic Associaton President’s Award – Plaque for the best TPA member exhibit.

Best of Texas Series Winner – Multiframe exhibit winners from the leading regional stamp shows in Texas are automatically entered into the TEXPEX exhibition with frame fees paid by the TPA. Those winners also receive one year’s free membership in the TPA. The highest scoring exhibit among those at TEXPEX receives the Best of Texas Series certificate..

Best Exhibit by a Young Adult - To be presented by the Texas Philatelic Association to an exhibitor between the ages of 18 and 30 whose exhibit qualifies. For the purpose of encouraging exhibits from this age group.

Convening societies also present a variety of awards during the annual awards banquet on Saturday evening.
