Welcome to the Texas Philatelic Association website. Whether you're a member or a visitor, thank you for taking the time to visit. We hope you'll find interesting and useful information as you check out what we have to offer.

The Texas Philatelic Association, founded in 1896, is one of the oldest and largest regional philatelic groups in America. We're almost 600 members strong and are proud to support our great hobby in the state of Texas.

TPA/OPS WINTER AUCTION 2012
ENDS IN TWO DAYS!

Only two days remain to place bids in the TPA/OPS Winter Auction 2012. There are 91 lots available. The material is predominately United States, but there are some great Texas postal history covers and quality foreign lots. For the first time, we are showing online the "current offer," which is either the second highest bid amount on lots that have more than one bid or the minimum bid amount for lots having one bid. As of Thursday, January 26, 2012, participation has been much lower in the past, with only 30 members of the two organizations placing bids and there still being 22 lots that have not received a single bid. Participation in this auction is open only to members of the Texas Philatelic Association and the Oklahoma Philatelic Society. Online bids are accepted. To bid online, be sure to have your member number handy for validation purposes [for TPA members, this four-digit number is printed on the envelopes used to mail journals, otherwise consult your membership card], then Click Here for auction rules, a lot listing with images, and to start bidding! Bids will be accepted until 6:00 p.m., January 28, 2012. Good Luck and thank you for your participation.

45¢ STAMP DUE ON JANUARY 22

On October 18, the U.S. Postal Service announced it would increase the first-class letter rate to 45¢ effective January 22, 2012. Postcards will cost 32¢ instead of 29¢. One-ounce letters to Canada and Mexico will rise from 80¢ to 85¢ and to other countries, from 98¢ to $1.05. The additional ounce cost of 20¢ will not change. Also, there will now be no extra charge for the second ounce of first-class pre-sorted mail, that being an attempt to perhaps gain back some lost mail volume from direct mailers. A basic flat rate of $18.95 will be charges for Express Mail instead of a wight and distance scheme that began at $13.25. The cheapest Priority Mail rate goes to $5.15 instead of $4.95. Standard, periodical and parcel post mail become more costly, as well as most other services.

USPS CONSIDERS CLOSING
CLOSE TO 3,700 POST OFFICES

The U.S. Postal Service announced July 26 that it was considering closing upwards of 3,700 low-volume post offices, about 12% of the total new open. Most of the post offices were within five miles of another one, the mail agency said, and consumers now have options to purchase stamps and other services at commercial retail outlets. Of those being considered for shuttering, 222 are in Texas. For the list of proposed Texas post office closings, click here.
